About the Playful Culture Trail

The Playful Culture Trail was first established in Cork in 2021 as part of an ongoing commitment towards making Cork a ‘Playful City’ and to make cultural and heritage spaces more accessible and fun for children. The idea proved hugely popular with locals and visitors to the city alike and opened a new way of thinking about attractions in the city.

Running from July to August, Cork's participating visitor attractions and hotels will invite families to partake in the Playful Culture Trail by offering them a kid friendly map of Cork City. Each attraction will be listed, with participants able to collect stamps from each of the museums, galleries, and historic sites. They will also be encouraged to complete the list of 25 Playful Things to Do which include finding Ogham Stones in UCC, sketching their favourite work of art in the Crawford Art Gallery and spotting the Ardu street murals across the city! An accompanying Playful Culture Trail website will feature additional sustainable craft ideas, ensuring that young artists have plenty to keep them busy throughout the summer.

Be on the look out for ‘Blaithín’ the Lizard, our trail’s mascot who plays hide and seek in all the attractions!

“The Playful Culture trail has allowed us to engage with families and children especially in a new and dynamic way”.

— Elizabeth Fort

This project is part of an overall mission to make Cork a playful, child friendly, active city and was developed in a collaboration with all of the participating museums, galleries and attractions in Cork, generously sponsored by Cork City Council with extra contributions from Playful Paradigm, Cork Local Sports Partnership, and Pure Cork.
