About the Playful Culture Trail

The Playful Culture Trail was first established in Cork in 2021 as part of an ongoing commitment towards making Cork a ‘Playful City’ and to make cultural and heritage spaces more accessible and fun for children. The idea proved hugely popular with locals and visitors to the city alike and opened a new way of thinking about attractions in the city.

Running from June to August, Cork's participating visitor attractions and hotels will invite families to partake in the Playful Culture Trail by offering them a kid friendly map of Cork City. Each attraction will be listed, with participants able to collect stamps from each of the museums, galleries, and historic sites. They will also be encouraged to complete the list of 20 Playful Things to Do which include finding cannonballs at Elizabeth Fort, Discovering the Cork Horns in Cork Public Museum and printing your own butter wrapper at the Butter Museum! An accompanying Playful Culture Trail website will feature additional sustainable craft ideas, ensuring that young explorers have plenty to keep them busy throughout the summer.

Be on the look out for ‘Blaithín’ the Lizard, our trail’s mascot who plays hide and seek in all the attractions!

This project is part of an overall mission to make Cork a playful, child friendly, active city and was developed in a collaboration with all of the participating museums, galleries and attractions in Cork, generously sponsored by Cork City Council.
